The Author did a remarkable job of telling his story, a story that had to crush him with every page he had to relive while writing this book. His story will make you cry and make you laugh, but it will leave you shaken to your core. Only by telling his story can society realize that this happens and that the people involved are doctors, lawyers, priests, judges and others. This book comes at a time when Jeffrey Epstein's victims are not always believed. I say thank you to Ken Tipton for digging deep into your soul to get the courage to write this book. You are a remarkable Author.

I picked this up because I was interested in true crime, but it became much more personal. What stayed with me was not just the exposure of institutional abuse and grooming, but the unwavering friendship between Kenny and Greg as they tried to survive the impossible. It is a painful memoir to read, yet the honesty and resilience behind their story made it feel important rather than sensational.

Lost Innocence is a very hard book to read; it is the raw truth, but a truth that has to be told! I am so moved by Kenny and Greg’s friendship, the horrors they endured and the love they had for each other. Grooming is a real thing; it happens more often than most people realize. Pure evil from the adults who should be protecting children. So many children keep secrets, thinking that it’s out of love, when it’s really perverted adults destroying them and their childhood. Yes, this is a hard book to read; it will break your heart, but it also sheds light on children who are being sexually abused. More people need to be so bold to speak up!!

This book is a very hard read but a very important one. I think it is amazing that someone finally spoke up, though I cannot imagine having to relive all of the details to write this book. We live in scary times, so this book definitely draws attention to the fact that we need to protect our kids, no matter their gender. And when a child speaks out, take it seriously. Provide that safe environment where they feel they can speak to you, so if something does happen, it doesn’t continue. Highly recommend this book!

I opened this memoir knowing it would be upsetting. I was not prepared for the sheer amount of rage it would produce.

Nothing says “trusted community leader” quite like hiding behind a uniform while behaving like the human version of a contaminated dumpster.

Here’s What Slapped

The most memorable part of the book is the relationship between Kenny and Greg. Their connection becomes a source of protection, understanding, and emotional survival in circumstances where every adult should have stepped in and apparently decided looking the other way was easier.

Their humor also matters. It does not lessen what happened or make the material easier to excuse. Instead, it shows two young people finding tiny ways to remain themselves when others were determined to strip away their dignity.

Mr. Ken Tipton writes with a bluntness that does not allow the reader to comfortably distance themselves from the events. He discusses fear, confusion, guilt, loyalty, and the long aftermath without pretending that the damage vanished once childhood ended. The book makes it painfully clear that trauma does not politely pack a suitcase and leave when someone reaches adulthood.

This memoir also examines the danger of assuming that organizations, titles, professions, or reputations automatically equal safety. Predators do not always appear threatening. Sometimes they carry credentials, shake hands at community events, and receive awards from people who never bother to look beneath the polished surface.

What Could’ve Been Better

Because the book contains many events, locations, and individuals, some sections are emotionally and mentally overwhelming. Readers may need breaks to process what they are reading.

That is not a criticism of the author’s experience. It is simply a warning that this is not the book to casually start before bed unless your evening plans include anger, heartbreak, and glaring suspiciously at every institution that has ever used the phrase “family values.”
